What Shapes an Open-Concept Plan Before You Draw It
These are the decisions that separate a great open plan from a big empty room.
Even with no walls, an open plan needs defined zones for cooking, eating and relaxing. Those are created with the island, ceiling and furniture layout, all designed up front.
Removing partitions means beams and posts have to carry the loads those walls used to. That structure is engineered into the plan, not improvised on site.
